The Namche Wall - A Challenging Day
A tough day for sure (but for some even tougher)
EBC Trek Day 2: with a climb of over 3,000 vertical feet to reach Namche Bazaar, today’s hike has the most elevation gain on the entire Everest Base Camp trek. Thankfully the weather was cool and pleasant and we enjoyed some spectacular views. A challenging day like today brings people together and it was fun chatting with others on the trail. Since there are no roads in this part of the world, porters are required to carry in supplies by foot for both locals and visitors. We were passed many times by people carrying large, impossibly heavy loads in baskets held onto their backs with a strap that loops around their forehead. Very often, you’ll see them doing this in plastic sandals and typically with a friendly smile. I’m certain that each time we were passed by one of these incredible people, I could hear the universe whispering a gentle reminder to us that difficulty is relative and attitude is everything. A tough day for sure, but tougher days may lay ahead.
